WhatsApp has introduced additional security measures aimed at giving users stronger protection against unauthorised access to their accounts.

The new system allows users to create a stronger password alongside the existing six-digit two-step verification PIN. The password can combine letters, numbers and special characters, making it harder to guess.

Users are encouraged to avoid easily predictable information such as names, birthdays and other personal details when creating passwords. Using a long, unique password can help reduce the risk of unauthorised access.

Multiple passkeys for one account

WhatsApp also allows users to secure an account with passkeys. These can include device-based authentication methods such as fingerprints, Face ID and screen locks.

Users can access the passkey option by going to Settings > Account > Passkeys in WhatsApp.

Android users can also get additional information about calls from unfamiliar numbers.

Even when a number is not saved in a user's contacts, information associated with the number may be displayed if it is linked to WhatsApp. This can help users make a more informed decision about whether to answer a call.
